We are London’s Growth Opportunity, with over £1 billion invested in the borough since 2014 and more and more people moving to B&D. We are working to ensure all residents benefit from this, and boost jobs and local businesses by:
✔ Approved plans for the Dagenham Film Studios, creating up to 1,800 skilled jobs over 2 sites and expected to bring £35 million per year investment to the borough.
✔Relocating the 3 Markets of London – Smithfield, Billingsgate and New Spitalfields – to Barking and Dagenham, creating over 3,500 local jobs as well as a new food school to train tomorrows market traders.
✔ Supporting Coventry University to set up their London Campus in the borough, providing the training and upskilling our residents.
✔ Bringing big business to the borough – from Unite the Union Offices, to top science firms at the Cube in Londoneast.
✔ Launched Kick Start Barking and Dagenham, creating work placements in the council and working with local partners for additional roles.
✔ Creating local construction jobs with our wholly owned regeneration company Be First – with over 264 apprenticeships at London Living Wage.
✔Launching our successful ‘Job Shops’, already bringing 3462 local residents back into work since 2014
✔Giving our young people degrees without the debt, offering law apprenticeships with Barking and Dagenham Council to aspiring lawyers who would not otherwise have the opportunity
✔ And supporting local residents and businesses to get back on their feet throughout the Coronavirus Pandemic by:
- helping over 1,300 residents back to work through our Employment & Skill Service
- Paying out of £26 million in business grants
